Today, we celebrate fathers and the freedom announced for many fathers in 1865. The characteristics of a good father are numerous and the impact of a good father on his children is powerful. The opposite is true as well.

In our household, we celebrate a dad who loves without favoritism, picking up the role of father where another abandoned his and embracing natural-born and adopted children as equals. Farmer Jones, we celebrate your faith and commitment to do the right thing.

I celebrate my father and the many good and hard decisions he made through the years that ensured my siblings and I had the freedom and the truth to choose a life of love and service to our friends, family and community. Today, instead of living the retired life when he can finally focus on self, my father has chosen to serve others overseas and continues to bring fatherless children into his home for respite.

Above all, I celebrate the Father of Creation who cares for his children in perfect love, truth, and offers freedom to all. He has proclaimed his promises over all and I stand on this one with you today: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Until Next Week,

The Mrs. Farmer Jones

THIS IS A BIG WEEK FOR US:

This week we will have our final inspections to open. We are confident we will exceed the requirements of the County and will receive the proper approvals to finally open. We open this coming Saturday, June 25!

Last year it was confirmed that we would need to change Locavore's original site dramatically in order to continue our operation in 2022. The property layout and the math required us to look beyond our current location. Each season we'd meet requirements to obtain the necessary permits to open, but year over year those requirements would expand as the County addressed an evolving and emerging industry in agriculture. After seven years and new legislation on both local and state levels, we believe we have trailblazed a path forward for how people dine and gather on the farm. In cooperation with Kankakee County, we have created a way forward for Agri-tourism to boom in the region.

What is Agri-tourism? Simply put, visiting and experiencing the offerings of a farm. I believe that the shift in how we farm, eat and gather has created the opportunity for farmers to be more financially independent and communities to grow closer through and to their food.

Purchasing and relocating took a big risk, but with a community of dream-makers, we stepped into a new space where we will grow for years to come. Our story echoes the story of the original owners. Almost a century ago, a couple from the city purchased this estate as their own rural resort. They called this place, At Last a Farm. This is the name of our new chapter too!

Over the last four months this place has exceeded its original design. Locavore Farm is pleased to announce a new destination that redefines tourism in rural communities and beckons a new term, agrarian resort - an all inclusive place to eat, drink, stay and experience through education and entertainment how good food is grown and consumed by a community connected to the Midwest's rural roots. Rural communities have always been the place to escape and we hope our venture brings the support rural towns need to stay that way.

Come see us this season. Make your reservation to Dine on the Land and watch for an announcement this week, regarding Thursdays and Fridays.
