Young Stewards Program

The Young Stewards Program at Locavore Farm is more than an apprenticeship—it’s a transformative experience that challenges mainstream ideas about food, work, and community. Designed for motivated young people seeking hands-on skill-building, this program provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to step away from the fast-paced digital world and into the rhythms of nature, meaningful work, and personal growth.

Young Stewards volunteer as an integral part of the farm, working alongside our team while gaining valuable agricultural, culinary, and leadership experience. This is a learning opportunity with a small program fee—an investment in skills and knowledge that will round out any future pursuits, whether in higher education, the workforce, or community leadership.

What You'll Experience

At Locavore Farm, we believe in the power of connection—to the land, to food, and to each other. The Young Stewards Program immerses participants in two symbiotic aspects of farm life:

The Table – Experience the communal aspect of food, from harvesting and preparing ingredients to hosting farm-to-table feasts. Learn about food sustainability, hospitality, and the art of gathering around shared meals.

The Land – Get your hands in the soil, learning organic farming, land restoration, animal husbandry, and regenerative agriculture practices that sustain the earth and its bounty.

Through hands-on participation, stewards gain confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for sustainability and community. Locavore Farm is a retreat from the noise of the world—a place to slow down, build something real, and cultivate lasting connections. Here, stewards join a community that values hard work, creativity, mutual respect, and environmental responsibility.

By prioritizing the slow and deliberate over the fast and convenient, we not only grow nutritious, ethically produced food but also nurture leaders, thinkers, and doers who will carry these lessons forward into the world.
